Activities & Services

Parent & Consumer Workshops. The Foundation provides periodic webinar (usually at no charge) for consumers and their parents, family members, and their support team. These events focus upon general applications of AT to learning, communication or employment.

Presentations on AT. Parent groups and organizations may request a speaker on various aspects of AT. Instructors from CREATE volunteer their time with the Foundation as speakers for this purpose. Assistance with travel costs is appreciated.

Individual AT Consultations. The DEF team meets with consumers and their families in an informal setting to explore options of use of AT to help the individual with communication, school, work, and play. While no formal recommendations are made, consumers and their families leave knowing more about their options. Often they have had hands-on experience with the AT choices available.

Need-based mini-grants for AT. DEF has provided several small grants for individuals who need AT or Augmentative Communication Devices (ACDs) but have limited financial resources. Individuals may request a grant application form by calling 770-923-3202. Requests are considered quarterly.

While the Foundation generally does not charge for its services, we do ask that family and friends of those we serve consider making a donation to the Foundation, so that others may benefit from these services as well.

Adapted Bible Study and Sunday School materials for persons with disabilities. The Foundation is developing tools and strategies for including individuals with disabilities in the life of the Church.

Currently under development are adaptations to support the use of the Firm Foundations Sunday School curriculum with children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Firm Foundations curriculum is produced by New Tribes Mission.
